Happy New Year! We are no longer offering classes in the Rhinebeck studio. However, we continue to develop and produce new educational projects (consulting on websites, after-school programs, edible education initiatives, etc…), and we’ll be exploring new locales for Wing & Clover (pop-up spots, maker-events, cities near and far). This year will also be a time to re-focus on the creative pursuits that have always been at the core of what matters most to us.
Many, many thanks to all the talented teachers and wonderful students who have inspired us to MAKE and DO over the past 3 years! Stay tuned for news of where we’ll turn up next and please keep in touch!
We are now offering ongoing kids after-school and daytime workshops- choose a class, register for a 5 pack, and start whenever you want. Offerings include: Preschool Afternoon Art, Build It!, Inspired by Art and Crafty Creatures.
Our popular Befriend Your… series continues with Befriend Your Sewing Machine (special edition at Hammertown Barn with lunch!) on 10/13 and the brand new Befriend Your Camera (you asked for it, we made it happen) on 11/4.
We’ve also just added new kids after-school classes to our studio mix: Inspired by Great Artists for ages 8-12 (starts 10/16) and Crafty Creatures for the 5-7 set (starts 10/18). Sign up for one of these by 10/12 and get 15% off (code: AFTERSCHOOL).
Earlier today, I stopped by the studio for a visit with the first session of the Daytime DIY: Sewing classes that Cal Patch is teaching on Monday afternoons this fall. In today’s session, students were making drawstring bags while learning the basics of machine sewing.
Students learned to pin their fabric, to thread their machines and bobbins, to use back-stitching, to consider seam allowances, to make casings, and to finish seam edges.
Though most of the students had very little machine sewing experience, with Cal’s encouragement and guidance, they were sewing away on their machines with increasing confidence. It was inspiring to see them busily finishing their first projects.
If you want to get in on the fun and learn more skills and techniques of machine sewing, Cal is teaching 4 more sessions of Daytime DIY: Sewing on Mondays from 12:30 – 2:30 pm. Each of the coming four sessions focus on another set of skills and techniques that you’ll learn while making a project Cal designed to emphasize those skills.
You can sign up for individual sessions to learn about adding a lining and pockets to a bag, how to put in zippers, how to make buttonholes, and the hand-sewing techniques essential to a great finish on your sewn projects. Email me, firstname.lastname@example.org to register or to ask questions.
So, pull out your calendar and check out the coming classes. In few weeks from now, you could be friends with your sewing machine too!
For many of us this is a hectic week, getting kids back to school and ourselves back to the mayhem that is school/activities/work. As you begin to plan for yourself, take a peek at new classes we’ve added, such as Befriend Your Camera with the talented photographer Thea Coughlin or our Holiday DIY gift-making series with Cal Patch.
